Overview
Ankang Museum, situated at No. 6 Anlan Road in Hanbin district, is the only comprehensive museum in Ankang city. Initially founded in 1984 as the Ankang Historical Museum, it relocated to its current address in 2014. This national second-class museum boasts a collection of over 40,000 artifacts, including nearly 1,000 precious relics. Its collection features cultural relics from the Ba, Shu, and Chu civilizations of the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, as well as Han and Wei era celadon wares, portrait bricks, pottery figurines, and calligraphy and paintings from renowned artists of the Ming(1368-1644) and Qing dynasties (1644-1911).
Architectural Highlights
Spanning an area of 43 acres with a construction area of 15,000 square meters, the museum’s architecture was designed by Zhang Jinqiu, a renowned architect from the Northwest Architectural Design and Research Institute. The building embodies the regional characteristics of “high platform facing the river, openness on all sides, Qin and Chu cultural styles.” Comprising a three-story main structure with six-story sections, the museum is a key landmark on the scenic central city waterfront of Ankang.
